Our Mission

At Tyne Tees Heritage Transport, our mission is to preserve, restore, and celebrate the North East's rich transport history. Founded in 2019 by a passionate group of volunteers, we are dedicated to safeguarding vehicles of historical significance - trams, trolleybuses, classic cars, motorbikes, and more - that reflect the innovation and spirit of our region’s past.

Through meticulous restoration projects, we bring these iconic vehicles back to life, ensuring they can be enjoyed by future generations. We aim to educate the public about the important role transport has played in shaping local history, while inspiring younger generations to appreciate and engage with this shared heritage.

We also bring communities together by hosting events, exhibitions, and interactive experiences that celebrate the craftsmanship and stories behind these vehicles. At Tyne Tees Heritage Transport, we believe that preserving our transport legacy is about more than restoring machines - it’s about connecting people to the stories of our past and keeping history alive, one vehicle at a time.

Events

At Tyne Tees Heritage Transport, we are proud to host and support a wide range of events that celebrate the North East's rich transport heritage. Working closely with other local clubs and organisations, we bring together enthusiasts, families, and communities to enjoy vintage vehicles in action. From classic car shows and open days to rallies and exhibitions, our events provide a unique opportunity to experience beautifully restored trams, trolleybuses, cars, motorbikes, and more.

These gatherings not only showcase the dedication of our volunteers and fellow enthusiasts but also inspire visitors to learn more about the history behind these remarkable machines. By partnering with other heritage groups, we create memorable events that connect people of all ages to the craftsmanship, innovation, and stories that have shaped our region’s transport history. Whether you're a lifelong enthusiast or simply curious, our events offer something for everyone - bringing history to life and building a shared appreciation for our past.

Our Collection
Tyne Tees Heritage Transport proudly owns a diverse collection of historically significant vehicles, ranging from the last surviving WH Jolly bus, which once served the South Hylton area of Sunderland, to a Darlington trolleybus that ended its service with the City of Bradford Transport Group. In addition to a selection of members' classic cars, our collection includes a North East-based Astra police car and a variety of vintage bicycles

Our mission extends beyond preservation. We collaborate with numerous groups to safeguard vehicles that tell the story of road and land-based transport across the North of England. Importantly, we ensure that our collection remains accessible to the public. By participating in shows, events, and community initiatives, we bring these vehicles to life. We also visit care homes in the region, using our collection to spark cherished memories and connect people to the past.
